Further comments on Pyrrhuras’ diets

Dear Parrots magazine,

Further comments on Pyrrhuras’ diets

I would like to comment on a couple of points.  There are two broad areas to consider when reviewing the dietary provisions of captive parrots: nutritional content and ability of birds to express normal foraging behaviour.

In answer to letter in 199

Dear Parrots magazine,

In answer to letter in 199

In the early 1980’s, the holistic, organic and natural segment of the dog and cat food industry was born in the US. It grew from the vision of one holistic vet, he formulated homemade recipes for dogs and cats that exponentially surpassed the nutrition present in other foods (canned and dry kibble) that were available at the time.  Aviculture would be well served by learning from what has taken place in the dog and cat food industry since then.

Kind words kept me going

Dear Parrots magazine,

Kind words kept me going

I would like to thank those readers who have written in about by articles, especially Rosemary Low.  I felt so low after ABV rampaged through our flock that I came close to quitting writing altogether.  Rosemary's kind words and positive encouragement motivated me to keep going.  I write for the simple pleasure of it and am I happy to hear that readers enjoy my articles as much as I enjoy writing them.

Blue-throated Conures fed pellets

Dear Parrots magazine,

Blue-throated Conures fed pellets

The March 2014 (194) issue of Parrots magazine included an article on the Blue-throated Conure (Pyrrhura cruentata), written by myself.  This article focussed on my own approach to the care of this species.  Having been busy passing my final exams, I have only just been directed to the article in the June 2014 issue where some comments were made by Rosemary Low about my use of a formulated diet (specifically Harrison’s High Potency Fine) for my birds.

AG prescribed anti-depressant

Dear Parrots magazine,

AG prescribed anti-depressant

Elaine Henley's story in the news pages of the June 2014 issue (198) explaining the wicked treatment afforded an African Grey enraged me, as have other tales of ill-treatment, recorded in your interesting periodical.

Great Think Parrots Show!

Dear Parrots magazine,

Great Think Parrots Show!

Thank you for the Think Parrots Show on Sunday, 22 June, my husband and I enjoyed it very much!  We travelled down from Scotland on the Saturday night, stayed overnight in London and then caught the train direct to Kempton Park.
