Dear Parrots magazine,

Getting together

One of my neighbours found out I had some parrots, she also has a parrot, an Orange-winged Amazon. Recently she contacted me saying she wanted to get a friend for her Amazon and how should she go about doing so? I have read many articles in Parrots magazine about adding a bird and the potential problems, so explained to her that if she wanted to get another bird she should go through that gradual process of putting them close to each other in separate cages, preferably in a neutral room.

She did finally take the plunge and got another Orange-wing. She chose a spare bedroom in which they spent several days, and the good news is that they seem to have bonded. What we don’t know is the sex of either and what might happen in the future!
