Shredded paper works a treat!
I have always used newspaper to line my bird cages, but have found that some birds tear it into tiny pieces. This leaves the cage bottom bare. It keeps them amused, but it does not make cage-cleaning easy!
The perfect solution is to place the newspaper in the cage as usual, and cover it with shredded paper. The birds love this even more, and it isn’t easy for them to peck through the bottom layer of paper. It also looks tidier and makes a bouncy floor which the birds enjoy lying on!
