Letters: Escaped Parrots

Dear Parrots magazine,

Escaped Parrots

It is quite sad to see that most of the news stories in Parrots magazine relate to escaped parrots. In the September magazine a Grey escaped after it was taken into a field, a conure flew off as the owner took out the rubbish, a Blue and Yellow Macaw escaped when the door was opened, a Blue-fronted Amazon flew out of an open window, and a Grey flew away when the cage door was opened. Come on owners! Please be more security conscious! Your carelessness leads to death in the worst case scenario and only a lot of stress if the bird is lucky.

Letters: Great places to visit in the South West

Dear Parrots magazine,

Great places to visit in the South West

How lovely to read Rosemary’s Low’s account of her visit to Paradise Park in Cornwall. The collection there truly is unsurpassed in the UK, as are the splendid conditions in which the birds are maintained.

Letters: That new beak!

Dear Parrots magazine,

That new beak!

In the June issue, I was delighted to read about the parrot that got a new beak. It never ceases to amaze me how there are so many wonderful people who care for the birds we all love.

Letters: Bad behaviour

Dear Parrots magazine,

Bad behaviour

Please can we have more articles on ‘parrots behaving badly’?

Letters: Choose organic

Dear Parrots magazine,

Choose organic

I have had my two macaws now for 37 years and I never tire of reading about all parrots, both from a companion point of view, and from some of the more interesting stories.

Letters: Breeding cockatiels

Dear Parrots magazine,

Breeding cockatiels

In the March issue I read an article by Jim Hayward who gave some very useful tips on breeding cockatiels. When living with my parents, we had a pet cockatiel that was the centre point of the family and which seems to have made a mark on me. Since getting married and leaving home, I would always think what a super little bird he was and that has ignited an interest to breed them.
