Letters: Strongly disagree

Dear Parrots magazine,

Strongly disagree

I would like to respond to Trevor Hollings comments on unsuitability of the aviaries and that the National Parrot Sanctuary is only interested in making profit (Parrots magazine October 09). I for one strongly disagree with this for the aviaries are more than adequate and with that many parrots, most money would go into feeding and vet fees.

Letters: Feral parakeets

Dear Parrots magazine,

Feral parakeets

I have read about feral Ring-necked Parakeets and the DEFRA editorial on the Parrots’ website and am not confident that a cull will not take place.

Letters: Birdkeeping's future

Dear Parrots magazine,

Birdkeeping's future

I am becoming increasingly concerned that we are not getting youngsters into our hobby and cannot but help notice that membership of birdkeeping clubs is declining. It would appear that the interest in keeping birds is not so popular with young people as their technical gizmos are.

Letters: National Parrot Sanctuary & Zoo

Dear Parrots magazine,

National Parrot Sanctuary & Zoo

I was shocked at the Greg Glendell letter published in the December issue of Parrots magazine. Since Mr Glendell’s visit, there have been many new large aviaries put up, including adequate sheltering from bad weather. Many aviaries have been refurbished and the birds are continually given stimulation. They are even growing their own trees to help with this. Their diet is very varied and there are proper quarantine facilities. Veterinary care is always available.

Letters: Clean air

Dear Parrots magazine,

Clean air

I read somewhere that ionisers are good if you keep birds in your house. I personally had always thought these machines as an ‘all in the mind concept’ because when asking people who had one if it made a difference to them, they weren’t sure.

Letters: What is indigenous?

Dear Parrots magazine,

What is indigenous?

I question the whole idea of ‘indigenous’ and exactly what it means and am, of course, referring to the saga of the feral parakeets we seem to hear so much about these days.
