Dear Parrots magazine,

Budgie drinker warning

I would like to warn other bird-keepers of the potential hazard of clear plastic, open water containers, which are clipped on to the outside of many budgie cages.

I recently bought a baby budgie from my local pet shop, but just days after bringing him home, I returned from work to find him wedged upside down in the water container. I think he was confused by the clear plastic and was probably trying to get out of the cage. I feel dreadful at the possibility of losing a budgie in this way, but will never risk this happening again, as I now use a cylindrical drinker.
