Dear Parrots magazine,

Don’t hit the pet shop

My youngest daughter (13 yrs old) has always had a passion for a budgie or cockatiel, and has always shown a mature attitude towards all animals. Almost a year ago, she started to look around and there was always a resistant to go to a pet shop, as generally, it seems they don’t have a very good reputation.

But in the end, she did go and buy a budgie for our local pet shop that is clean and tidy, and all looks in very good order. Also, the lady that sold the bird really did seem to know what she was talking about.

Almost a year on now, and Freddie, that’s what she called him, is a thriving little chap and is out more than he is in. And the people working in the pet shop are all very nice and knowledgeable about the animals they sell.

So let’s have a bit less criticism of pet shops, they are not all the same.
