Dear Parrots magazine, PerchesI was thrilled to read Eb Craven’s column in the April issue about perching. Eb has a great knack of identifying the ‘natural’ elements that can affect our birds.
I have seen so many aviaries and cages with uniform dowel perches and, yes, horizontally placed. But what I believe Eb is saying, in the wild, you won’t find a single horizontal dowel perch anywhere. Nature has provided a massive variety of ‘perches’, in trees and the like, at just about every angle you can imagine. So let’s get rid of these awful plastic covered metal perches in cages and also dowel, and replace them with natural ones with different diameters and varying shapes - that would be a lot more natural, and as nature intended.
